Purni Morell is a freelance director, writer and translator based in Antwerp. Recent work includes A Sonic Palimpsest (Chatham Historic Dockyard), Over Lunan (Aproxima Arts), Afropean: Human Being (KVS Brussels), Dido (English National Opera/Unicorn Theatre), Second Citizen (National Theatre of Scotland) and Hamlet’s Lunacy (Crew Online/0090). With her own company, fieldwork , she has made Public Enemy: Flint (Michigan, co-produced with the Goodman, Berkeley Rep, Detroit Public Theatre, Centerstage Baltimore and others) and Alpha Beta (Finborough Theatre, nominated in the Off West End Awards for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Design). Purni was Artistic Director of the Unicorn Theatre (London) from 2011-1028 where she directed A Winter’s Tale, Dora, The Velveteen Rabbit (also New York, Barcelona and Seattle), Baddies: the Musical, My Father Odysseus, Big Love and Version A (the last two co-directed with Christian Roe) and wrote/translated A Winter’s Tale, Henry V, The Fourth Wise Man and Othello. Outside the Unicorn, her writing and translation has been produced by ATC, the Finborough, Speeltheater Holland, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Muziektheater Transparant, ‘t Arsenaal, Vlaamse Opera, Gent and variously in Australia and Canada. She also writes for television.
